Terms of use

These terms govern your use of the BITS Lebanon apps and website, operated by BITS Technologies, Lebanon ("we", "us"). By using the service you agree to them. If you do not, do not use the service.

1. What the service is

BITS Lebanon provides a searchable view of Lebanese public-record datasets, currently the electoral registry published by the Ministry of the Interior. The service is in early access and is provided as it stands.

It is not an official record. See the early-access disclaimer, which forms part of these terms. Do not use the service as proof of registration, identity, residence or eligibility to vote.

2. Your account

You need a verified email address. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done through your account. One account per person. Sharing credentials, or reselling access, is not permitted.

3. What you may do

Search and view records for your own use — personal, journalistic, academic or professional research.

4. What you may not do

You may not:

a) extract the dataset in bulk, scrape it, or query it by any automated means outside the app;
b) republish the dataset or a substantial part of it, or build a competing database from it;
c) use it to contact, profile, harass, intimidate or discriminate against any person;
d) use it to decide anything about a person's employment, credit, housing, insurance or legal rights;
e) work around quotas, rate limits or payment;
f) use it for any purpose prohibited by Lebanese law.

We enforce rate limits and log access per account. Breaking these rules can mean suspension without refund.

5. Subscriptions, credits and payment

Paid plans are sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play. They renew automatically until cancelled, and you cancel or manage them in your store account, not here. Plans include a number of searches per period; unused searches do not carry over. Prices and allowances can change, and we will tell you before a change affects you.

Refunds are handled by the store you bought through, under its policy.

6. Rewarded advertising

You may optionally watch an advertisement to earn extra searches. The credit is granted only when the ad network confirms to our server that the ad was genuinely watched. Attempting to forge that confirmation is a breach of these terms.

7. Accuracy and reporting errors

The data is being reviewed and corrected. We do not warrant that it is accurate, complete or current. Every record has a report option; please use it when something looks wrong.

8. Availability

We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the service, including datasets and features, and may block a specific app build that we believe is displaying incorrect information.

9. Ending your use

You can delete your account in the app at any time. See the privacy policy for what deletion does. We may suspend or end an account that breaches these terms.

10. Liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from reliance on the data, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

11. Third-party data

Administrative boundaries come from the HDX COD-AB dataset for Lebanon under the Open Database Licence (ODbL) and remain subject to it. Nothing here grants you rights over that data beyond the ODbL.

12. Changes

When these terms change materially we publish a new version and ask you to accept it. Your acceptance is recorded against the version you agreed to.
